The budget segment has been largely dominated by the Chinese and some of the Indian players, while bigger smartphone manufacturers couldn’t take a big chunk from the pie. Expanding their presence in the budget segment, Xiaomi launched the Redmi 3S and Redmi 3S Prime for the sub-10000 segment. Here are some of the details of the Xiaomi Redmi 3S.
Talking about the design, the device comes with a design language that is very similar to the recently launched Redmi Note 3 and the little one too comes with a metal body. Xiaomi has made no compromises in terms of build quality and everything about the smartphones seems quite good when it is held in hand. The front of the device has a 5-inch display, up from the 4.7-inch on its predecessor, but it retains the resolution of 720p. It runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with MIUI 7 running on top.
It is powered by the latest generation octa-core Snapdragon 430 64-bit processor which comes accompanied by Adreno 505 GPU. The duo is fairly new in the market and we will have to thoroughly test the device to get to know how it actually is in real life usage. The RAM capacity of Redmi 3S is also quite sufficient with 2 GB in the base variant along with 16 GB of internal memory, and 3 GB of RAM in the Prime version that comes with a 32 GB of internal storage. Both the variants do support microSD cards up to 128 GB.
Coming to the camera department, the device comes with a 13 MP sensor on the back that supports PDAF, f/2.0 aperture, 1080p video recording and an LED flash. The front facing 5 MP shooter has f/2.2 aperture. The camera quality seemed decent at best and there is a lot more to explore to give a final verdict. Both the variants of the device come with Infrared sensor and the Prime variant of the Redmi 3S comes with a fingerprint scanner.
It is powered by a 4100 mAh battery, which is quite sufficient to keep the device running for about two days with normal to moderate usage. It comes with a hybrid SIM card slot and it does support 4G LTE connectivity and VoLTE calling option on 4G. The base variant has been priced at Rs. 6999 and the Prime variant will be available at Rs. 8999. Redmi 3S Prime will go on sale on mi.com and flipkart.com starting 9th august, while the lower end variant will go on sale starting 16th August.
