Xiaomi Mi Max Review: The Big Contender

After the successful Redmi Note 3, the company is back with yet another great smartphone in the budget price segment. The Xiaomi Mi Max is the latest device from Xiaomi and comes with some great features. Here is our review of the device.

Design & Display

The design of the Xiaomi Mi Max is very much similar to any of the Xiaomi devices launched in the recent past. It is made out of metal and there is a fingerprint scanner on the back. Thanks to the display size, the phone is really huge and is not meant for people with small hands. It is just 7.5 mm thick, despite sporting a huge battery pack.

On paper, the display might seem to sport a bit disappointing resolution, but in real world usage, the screen is just amazing. It has a large 6.44-inch footprint and it is great for watching movies and playing games. The colour reproduction was even just the right, while everything seemed quite sharp. The MIUI 7 offers a lot of customization options and you can tweak the display according to your requirement.

OS & Performance

It runs on a highly customised version of Android 6.0, and the company calls MIUI 7. The device is upgradable to MIUI 8, which is the latest version of the company’s OS and will be available soon for the users. It offers a lot of features that make the user interface a lot more interactive and helpful. The fingerprint sensor on the back of the device performs really well and is very quick to respond.

The Xiaomi Mi Max is powered by the same processor as in the Redmi Note 3, the Snapdragon 650. It is bundled with 3 GB RAM on the base variant and the higher end variant comes with 4 GB RAM and Snapdragon 652. Both the variants are provide optimum performance level and you won’t experience any hiccups or lags while heavy usage. The RAM capacity of the both variants is quite enough to handle heavy multitasking.

Camera

A 16 MP sensor with dual-tone LED Flash, PDAF and f/2.0 aperture sits on the back of the device. The camera clicks decent pictures that are good enough for your social media sharings. The images produced were in many ways better than the Redmi Note 3. Its colour reproduction and saturation level were just perfect. The 5 MP front camera is also quite impressive.

Battery

Xiaomi Mi Max comes packed with a 4850 mAh of battery, which we have seen in many of the other devices in the price range. The device gives an excellent battery backup and it also support fast charging. This will make the battery experience a lot better and will solve a major problem with modern smartphones.

Verdict

For a starting price of ₹15999, the Xiaomi Mi Max is a great device and the company very well managed to tick all the right boxes. It is an almost perfect device for the given price and features. But due to its screen size, it is suitable only for the people with large hands.
