After several rounds of leaks and rumours, Microsoft Lumia 650 is finally official, confirming almost every detail that we had earlier seen. It is supposed to be a mid range device from Microsoft, Lumia 550 being on the low end one. Unlike most of the recent mid range Android smartphones that come with pretty hefty specifications, Microsoft went for a subtler approach for this device.
The design is very similar to other Lumia devices, the Lumia 650 has a metal finish on the sides. The speaker of the device is situated on the front, right below the display, and not on the back. The device has a 5-inch AMOLED ClearBlack display. that comes with a resolution of 1280 x 720.
A quad core Snapdragon 212 processor clocked at 1.3 GHz powers up the device. While most of the devices in this price range come with at least Snapdragon 615 processor, but Microsoft went for the low end processor. Moreover, the device sports a RAM capacity of 1 GB, which seems a bit too low considering the price and competition. The internal memory is rated at 16 GB, and it can be expanded up to 200 GB via microSD card.
It is quite obvious that the device runs on Windows 10 OS, and comes loaded with the latest features. On the connectivity front, the Lumia 650 comes in dual-SIM variant, which will most probably launch in India. The device supports 4G LTE connectivity, besides the usual set of connectivity features, like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, etc.
The rear facing camera on the device is of 8 MP, and is accompanied by an LED flash for low light shots. While supporting f/2.2 aperture, the camera is capable of recording just 720p videos. Microsoft has again been miser in the camera department. The front of the device has a 5 MP camera with f/2.2 aperture and 720p video recording capability.
While weighing 122 grams with 6.9 mm thickness, the Microsoft Lumia 650 sports a battery capacity a 2000 mAh. The battery size seems just OK, and we can’t expect mind blowing results from it.
When launched, the device will be available in Matte Black, and Matte White colour options, and has been priced at $199, or Rs. 13,556 approx. The prices are before taxes and subsidies, and they seem to be on the higher side, considering the features that are being offered. As of now, there was information about the launch date and prices for India, but we can expect the launch to happen very soon.
