Micromax recently did some changes to their brand and logo, and announced a few new devices as well. While they were in the mid-range, the Micromax Canvas Mega 2 sits in the budget segment for its specifications and pricing. Let’s have a closer look at the device and decide if it is worth it or not.
First of all, the smartphone is phablet, and sports a 6-inch display, so consider this only if you have large hands. While the large screen may be good for watching movies and playing games, the screen resolution is nothing more than disappointing. It has a qHD resolution (960 x 540), which, on the screen size of 6 inches gives a really low pixel density.
The processing on the device is handled by a 1.3 GHz quad-core processor and 1 GB of RAM. Since the display doesn’t feature that high resolution, performance and transitions seem smooth for basic usage. Once again the Micromax Canvas Mega 2 disappoints, and this time in terms of OS. The device runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop, which is now ages old. Android Marshmallow would have been much appreciated. It has an internal memory of 8 GB, and it is expandable using the microSD card.
It has a basic 8 MP camera on the back, and it is aided by an LED flash for clicking images in low light. Though the camera on the device is not the best, we couldn’t ask for more at this price. It also has a 5 MP shooter on the front. The smartphone can take dual SIM card slots, and also supports 4G LTE connectivity, which is a plus point for the device.
The battery capacity of the Micromax Canvas Mega 2 is 3000 mAh, and you can expect the device to last for quite long, considering its compromising screen resolution. One good thing about the device is its speaker, it is placed on the front, and not on the back and will not get muffled up when lying flat on a table. Surprisingly, the design on the back panel is similar to the Moto X Play and we aren’t complaining about that.
The smartphone will be available in the market in the black colour option only and is priced at Rs. 7999.
