Micromax, the homegrown brand that has made its own space in the market with moderately priced smartphones with good features. Yesterday, the company announced some structural changes and launched a new brand identity with a new logo. Micromax also launched some new smartphones and Micromax Canvas 6 was one of them.
The smartphone looks a bit like the Google Nexus 6P due the black bar in the portion where its rear camera sits and the placement of fingerprint scanner. It has a uni-body metal design, that gives it a refreshed look and a premium feel when held. The Micromax Canvas 6 has quite thin bezels around the display, because of which, the phone doesn’t look and feel too big with its 5.5 inches display.
It has a full HD panel, that has sufficient pixel density and colour reproduction. The size of 5.5 inches is good for media consumption, and people with large hands will feel comfortable using the device. On the OS front, it runs on the Android 5.1 Lollipop with Around UI on top. The OS feels too old for 2016 smartphone, when Android 6.0 Marshmallow is more than 6 months old, and the Android N is about to be launched in the coming months. Micromax should have thought about this, or they can push an OTA update asap for the device with latest OS version.
An octa-core Meditek Helio X10 MT6795M chip powers the device and is helped by PowerVR G6200 GPU for handling heavy graphics. The processing power of the device is mid-range at its best, and you cannot expect flagship level performance from it. Micromax has included RAM of 3 GB, which also seems sufficient, and it has an internal storage of 32 GB, which can be further expanded using a microSD card.
As mentioned above, the smartphone also houses a fingerprint scanner on the back of the device and it can be reached quite easily when held with one hand. The 13 MP shooter sits on the back of the device with an LED flash, PDAF and f/2.0 aperture. Its front facing camera is of 8 MP. Again, you cannot expect flagship level performance from its camera, and it is just good for day-to-day usage.
The dual-SIM phone has support for 4G LTE connectivity, which is slowly becoming standard in all the new smartphones being launched. Micromax Canvas 6 can also connect over Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1 and GPS. The battery capacity is of 3000 mAh, which can only be tested after a full review.
It has been priced at Rs. 13,999 and will be available in Gold colour option only. The device has gone up for pre-order on the official Micromax website, but the dates for its availability are still not known.
