MWC 2016 has concluded, and all the major smartphone launches are done now. We got to see the launch of flagship smartphones from Samsung, LG, as well as Sony, but the device that deserves the top position is the Xiaomi Mi 5.
There were a lot of rumours about the device, and we all were expecting the launch of the device several months, but the company kept delaying the launch. The long wait was definitely worth it. Xiaomi Mi 5 is stuffed with top of the line specifications and features, and it is beautiful too!
It sports a glass back with curved side edges, similar to the Samsung Galaxy S7, and it gives the device a good grip and feel. Being covered with glass both on front and back, the device looks premium too. All in all, we are more than satisfied with the design aspect of the Mi 5.
Going by it legacy, Xiaomi has done no compromise in terms of hardware and features. Under the hood, the smartphone sports a Snapdragon 820 processor, which gives the smartphone brilliant performance. Mi 5 comes in two variants, one with 3 GB of RAM, and the top variant with 4 GB RAM. Moreover, the new device now comes with a fingerprint sensor too, and is built into the home button itself.
Besides performance, Xiaomi has also upgraded the camera module too, and it is now better than ever. The 16 MP unit on the back of the device is a Sony IMX298 sensor, with an aperture of f/2.0 PDAF and 4K video recording. The camera also supports 4-axis OIS, which is first of its kind in the industry. The front of the camera is a 4 MP module with 2um pixel size, f/2.0 aperture, 80-degree wide-angle lens, making it arguably the best selfie shooter.
Now comes the best part of the smartphone, its pricing. Xiaomi priced the basic variant with 3 GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage at 1999 Yuan (US$ 306 / ₹20,969 approx.), second variant with 3 GB RAM and 64 GB internal storage at 2299 Yuan (US$ 351 / ₹24,092 approx), and the high end variant with 4 GB RAM, 128 GB internal storage and ceramic back for 2699 Yuan (US$ 413 / ₹28,312 approx.).
