Asus has an all new smartphone in the budget segment, and the company now seems to be targeting the low budget segment to gain bigger market share. Going by this, the company launched the Asus Zenfone Go 4.5 2nd Gen in India for a price of Rs. 5,299, and the device comes with pretty basic feature set and specifications. We went hands on to check out how the device really felt.
The smartphone’s design is strikingly similar to other Asus devices we have been seeing in the past couple of years, and you will be able to instantly recognise that it is an Asus smartphone. The front of the device is quite plain and houses the display as well as the Android navigation keys just below it. While the back of the device is like the usual Asus devices, and has the camera unit with flash, and the speaker grill below.
Its screen is of 4.5 inches and bears a resolution of 854 x 480, which, by today’s standards is just too low to please the customers. Moreover, the company chose to include a Snapdragon 200 processor in the smartphone and couple it with just 1 GB of RAM. While other Indian and Chinese brands are coming with better specced phones at even lower prices, Asus’s decision simply disappoints. They should have at least gone for Snapdragon 400 processor, instead of the latest generation ones.
As a result of the poor processor choice, the smartphone is good just for basic use and you shouldn’t expect anything more than that. Also, the Asus Zenfone Go 4.5 runs on the Android 5.1 Lollipop variant, which is now a bit too old OS version to be included in any smartphone launched in 2016, even if it is a budget one. The battery included in the device is of 2070 mAh, on which we cannot comment as of now, since we didn’t spend enough time with the device to test its battery life.
On the camera front, the device will have two variants with two different camera sets. One variant comes with a 5 MP rear camera and a VGA 0.3 MP front camera, and the second variant comes with an 8 MP camera, while the front camera is of 2 MP. The two variants have different pricing too. The variant with 5 MP and 0.3 MP camera optics is priced at Rs. 5,299, while the other one with 8 MP and 2 MP camera optics is priced at Rs. 5,699. You can grab the device from all the online stores, and it will also be made available in the offline stores.
